Denys Arcand to start shooting his new movie Deux Nuits/Two Nights Thursday
Denys Arcand is set to begin work on his first new film since L’Age des tenebrers back in 2007.
Shooting begins Thursday in the Charlevoix region on Deux Nuits/Two Nights, a new drama from Arcand. Producer Denise Robert, who is also Arcand’s off-screen partner, told me they will only be filming five days in Charlevoix, taking advantage of the fall colours, and that the real shoot will be in the winter, with filming in Charlevoix and Quebec City. They will then move to Toronto and Paris next summer.
It is the story of an architect – played by Eric Bruneau – who lives with his wife (Melanie Thierry) in La Malbaie. But everthing is thrown for a loop when he goes to a congress in Toronto and spends an intense couple of nights with a much younger woman – discussing philosophy with her, I’m sure! That role has yet to be cast.
The cast also includes Marie-Josee Croze – who shot to fame thanks to her short but oh-so-memorable turn in Arcand’s Oscar-winning Les invasions barbares – Magalie Lepine-Blondeau, Yves Jacques and Michel Forget.
“It’s tres intimiste,” said Robert. “It’s a very different Denys Arcand.”
Alliance Films will release Deux Nuits/Two Nights sometime in 2012. In spite of the title, it is an almost entirely French-language film.

Two new film projects for Mélanie !
Mélanie Thierry Joins Terry Gilliam’s ‘Zero Theorem,’ Says Tilda Swinton Also On Board
It looks like it’s full steam ahead on the next feature film from Terry Gilliam, and so far it’s looking quite promising. The director has already lined up Christoph Waltz in the lead role of the sci-fi flick “The Zero Theorem,” which apparently mostly takes place in a chapel, centers around four main characters, and possibly includes nudity of some kind. And while word has mostly been quiet since the film was announced back in August, it looks like the cast is beginning to take shape.
Chatting with Le Petit Journal, “Babylon A.D.” and “The Princess Of Montpensier” actress Mélanie Thierry revealed her participation in Gilliam’s picture and tossed one more intriguing name into the mix.
“I’ll have two big films,” she said about her upcoming projects. “The new film by Denys Arcand, who I love. A film on four seasons, shot in real time. And I just signed for the new Terry Gilliam! It should be called ‘Zero Theorem,’ with Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton. I have a great part, a girl completely crazy and funny. It will be great fun to play this chick. I started the coaching and the shoot begins in November. I went back to the English lessons, because my English must be perfect, though Gilliam says he likes my “frenchness”! It will be a wonderful experience.”

New Film Project!
New film project for Mélanie : “L’autre vie de Richard Kemp” with Jean Luc Anglade
A time-travelling serial killer in L’Autre vie de Richard Kemp
A great cinematic classic, time travel is particularly in vogue in French productions at the moment. After Another Woman’s Life and Camille Rewinds (recently screened at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight), sci-fi thriller L’Autre vie de Richard Kemp (lit. “The other life of Richard Kemp”) by Germinal Alvarez is the latest to whizz down the corridors of time in a criminal investigation featuring Jean-Hugues Anglade (back in the limelight thanks to the television series Braquo) and Mélanie Thierry – The Princess Of Montpensier and the 2010 Cesar for most promising actress for One for the Road ).
